Date: Aug 19, 2017
Word Count: 300 words
Cross-Reference: Polygamy Day, August 19, polygamy activism

August 19, 2017, is Polygamy Day 16

On August 19, 2017, UCAPs (unrelated consenting adult polygamy supporters) are noting and celebrating "Polygamy Day 17" – the seventeenth year of annual Polygamy Day ® celebrations.

August   19th   of   is   the   official   date   of   Polygamy   Day   ®.       Starting   in   2001,   unrelated   consenting   adult   polygamy   supporters   (UCAPs)   have   celebrated   this   date   every   year   ever   since.   With   that   first   celebration   happening   during   "Year   1"   of   the   new   century,   every   "Polygamy   Day"   since   has   been   labelled   numerically   up   to   the   current   "Polygamy   Day   17"   of   August   19,   2017.
This   event   originated   in   Old   Orchard   Beach,   Maine,   as   an   organized   get-together   for   pro-polygamy   activists,   unconnected   to   Mormon   polygamy   or   Muslim   polygamy.     Over   the   years,   the   celebration   transformed   into   a   broader,   nationwide,   religiously-neutral   event   for   all   forms   of   unrelated   consenting   adult   pro-polygamists   in   their   own   local   geographies.
Polygamy   Day   ®   is   promoted   by   Polygamy   Day,   Inc.,   incorporated   in   2002   in   the   State   of   Maine.     Polygamy   Day,   Inc.   filed   for   the   federal   trademark   on   "Polygamy   Day   6."     Surprisingly,   the   U.S.   Patent   and   Trademark   Office   officially   trademarked,   Polygamy   Day   ®,   on   June   26,   2007   -   four   years   after   the   Lawrence   v.   Texas   and   eight   years   before   the   Obergefell   v.   Hodges   Supreme   Court   Decisions.
Polygamy   Rights   supporters   celebrate   each   August   19th   to   assess   and   strategize   the   legal   and   political   progress   over   the   preceding   year.   Strategies   for   the   upcoming   year   of   activism   are   also   organized.
Information   about   the   history   of   Polygamy   Day   ®   and   Polygamy   Day,   Inc.   are   available   at     Detailed   news   from   the   previous   year   leading   up   to   "Polygamy   Day   17"   appears   at
This   past   year   brought   more   setback   than   progress.     The   US   Supreme   Court   declined   to   hear   the   reversed   Brown   v.   Buhman   (“Sister   Wives”)   case   in   January;   and,   Canada's   B.C.   Supreme   Court   found   two   men   “guilty   of   polygamy”   in   July   (despite   no   other   crimes   occurring).     Surely,   unrelated   consenting   adult   pro-polygamists   do   have   much   to   consider   and   strategize   on   this   seventeenth   year   of   the   celebrations,   August   19,   2017   -     "Polygamy   Day   17."
